As the school year comes to a close and we transition into summer, our closets shift drastically. We prepare for the Tucson heat to kick into high gear by trading out jeans for shorts and dresses, and ditching any heavy layers. This week, TREND member and talented photographer, Sam Cummings, took summer-inspired photos of us at an abandoned diner here in Tucson called Jerry Bob’s. We show you our take on summer wear for the upcoming season.

If you’ve ever spent a summer in Tucson, you know how unbearable the heat is during the day. For me, sweltering temperatures equate to lightweight clothing that’s comfortable, but still cute. I wanted to contrast the warm weather with a cool-colored outfit, which is why I opted for a lot of denim and light blue detailing.
My number one essential for the summer season is a solid pair of denim shorts. It’s really difficult for me to find a pair that fits me perfectly, so when I find a good pair, I wear them to death. These distressed denim shorts from Topshop are by far the most comfortable and stylish ones I have ever owned, which is why I wear them practically everyday. I paired them with a shirt from Brandy Melville that I cropped myself. I thought that the blue old-fashioned car on the front was reminiscent of summer and matched perfectly with the rest of the outfit. I included this striped denim jacket from Forever 21 to throw on at night when the temperature drops a bit. I chose to complete the look with a pair of Doc Martens, but these could easily be replaced with a pair of white sneakers.

Summer is all about bright colors for me. I like keeping things casual but adding my own flair to every outfit I put on. I wanted to create an outfit that would keep me from breaking a sweat, which didn’t entirely work, but sweating as soon as you walk outside is pretty much inevitable here in Tucson.
I threw on this yellow dress from Sugarhigh because it’s extremely lightweight and the vibrant color was screaming summer. I wanted to amp it up by layering my dress with this graphic tee, also from Sugarhigh. Layering is usually a huge no from me in the summer, but these light layers are not too heavy, and transition seamlessly from day to night. I accessorized with matching yellow barrettes, a Louis Vuitton padlock necklace, and a pair of Stan Smith sneakers. I kept the color scheme of the entire outfit pretty warm-toned to match the sunset and emulate the warmth of the season.
